A Great Bluebonnet Year

Only Texas A & M could dare to improve on native bluebonnets, having created a red and a white strain, and planted them in the shape of the Texas Flag. Of course, they went further, just because only they can, and created a maroon strain, in honor of the preferred Aggie Color. They don't only bleed maroon, they want everything to be adorned with that lovely hue.

These bluebonnets, were taken near Buffalo Gap, on a Sunday drive. There is a riot of bluebonnets this year.

I HATE years that bluebonnets are thin. Thank you, by Lady Bird Johnson, who, after her return from Washington, D.C. as First Lady to persuaded the government of the State of Texas to seed bluebonnets and other wildflowers along the highways throughout the state.




I always thought that picking bluebonnets was illegal in Texas. According to Wikipedia, this is an Urban Legend, and it is merely illegal to tresspass on certain properties.
