JANET'S BIG ADVENTURE

“It's good to be just plain happy, it's a little better to know that you're happy; but to understand that you're happy and to know why and how and still be happy, be happy in the being and the knowing, well that is beyond happiness, that is bliss.” Henry Miller

Happiness: Savoring a Beautiful Day

Savor
" To appreciate fully; enjoy or relish: I want to savor this great moment of accomplishment.[From Latin sapere, to taste.]"
~ American Heritage Dictionary

My favorite of Martin Seligman's happiness interventions is to Savor A Beautiful Day. Philosopher's Notes summarized the procedure, so read that for more information. Here are the simple steps: 1. Share it! 2. Build memories. 3. Congratulate yourself! 4. Sharpen the experience. 5. Compare the experience. 6. Be absorbed! 7. Block interference. 8. Enhance your attention.

We spent Memorial Day weekend preparing for my son's wedding. The central occasion was the bridal shower at Sarah's home church in Grapevine. We also were looking forward to meeting Matthew's new in-laws.

At least fifty women showed up for the shower and bestowed many lovely gifts. Amanda baked cookies and decorated them, a two-day process with a lot of love and thought devoted to it. Afterwards, we met with Sarah's parents at Tolbert's in Grapevine. Good news, we really liked her parents. On Monday, Phillip and I drove to San Angelo to search out the perfect place to hold the rehersal dinner. We wanted a place that we could be comfortable, and where I could cater the meal myself. After checking out several restaurants, we had the idea to look for a Bed and Breakfast. We found a wonderful cabin to rent on a ranch, called Dry Hollow Hideaway. I am so happy that we found a place to stay and host the groomsmen and where I can cater the rehersal dinner. The owner, Nancy Becker, was hospitable and welcoming, and appeared to be excited about helping us have a wonderful family event.
